I HAVE DUG UP A SAMBUCETTI & CO. GLASS GALLON JUG THAT USED TO HAVE WOODEN HANDLE IT LOOKS JUST LIKE JACK DANIELS GALLON JUG WITH CIRCLE AROUND LOGO AND , TENN. ON THE SAME PLACEMENT ON BOTTLE WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD ANY INFO ON THIS COMPANY {SAMBUCETTI} AND WHAT THEY DID

Hey Tony.
Louis Sambucetti appears to have started his business ventures in 1898 as a Liquor & Cigar Dealer. In 1900 he picked up a partner named Bianchi in which we have found whiskey bottles and whiskey jugs with Sambucetti & Bianchi / Liquor Dealers / Memphis , Tenn. on them. His business was located on 233 Main St. We also have found one other " Gin Phosphate " bottle with " Sambucetti & Co. " on the front that seems to date around 1914 - 1915 . I believe that this would probably be time period that your gallon jug came about. This Jug is very scarce and if I were to guess the value - $200. ++ Great Find !! Thanks for letting everyone know about it. Mike

I have been collecting straight side and hutch coca cola bottles for about 5 years now. I have never dug, and would be interested in learning about it. I am near covington. if you ever dig out this direction, I would love to watch.

Hey guys. I heard you might be coming to Brownsville soon. Please let me know if you do. I would love to tag along and so would my dad. Ive been bottle hunting since I was a kid and 25 years later I have treasures to show for it. I believe I have found a cistern well dating back to a historic plantation. Have yall ever found anything in cistern wells?

Hey Ron,
I will let you know and ya'll can come by with us and we'll talk. Yes we do find bottles in Cisterns all the time. Sometimes 100's and even thousands of bottles. In any hole , whether its a Privy or Cistern , they can have anything in them and thats the fun of it. You never know what you might find! Call me and I can get your phone# so I can call you when wee get ready to go. My phone# is 901-487-9491.

Randell Walker says...
How do you present yourself when asking of permission to dig in someones back yard privy. What is your spill? Do you offer part of findings. Do you offer a contract?

Hey Randell,
First you just tell them the truth about what your interests are - History of the City, in our case Bottles from the years 1915 and back to the 1840's and somewhere in between and most of all what brought you to there house , like the old looking age of the house. Then ask them if there was anybody that was significance to the City that lived there or any information that they might have about the house. While you do always tell the truth about what you're wanting to do, you don't just knock on the door and ask them if you can dig an 18 foot hole in there back yard although you can tell them toward the end that there could be a brick lined hole that slaves dug in the 1850's (if thats the case) . It should excite them just as it always does us. Whenever they seem interested in some "neat old bottles" we'll give them some if we find any. On this honest approach you should get a yes most of the time. Thats at least most of the answer you are looking for.
Anyway, Good Luck and most of all have fun Digging !
Mike

I was hoping that you were starting a hole and my wife was glad you were not. I get to Memphis a few time a year. I would like to dig with you guys sometime..
