I bought a funny little jug today that I'd love some info about. It's about 2 3/4" high, with a shiny dark brown glaze, and some scratched in words that I can't clearly make out, except for the words "Owl", Sour Mash" and B Bros. does anyone know about such things? Thanks so much!

Guess nobody knows. Thanks for your time and quick reply.

Robert . There is no such listing of Stillman & Breen ever working together ,but I did see one listing of Stillman that might coincide with your bottle. I have seen your bottle and I am amazed ! It wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes. This is a G R E A T , G R E A T Find ! There hasn't been a find like this in a long time ! I am going to put your Photos on the front page of this site. Call me when you see this. 901-487-9491 Mike

Do you have an idea on how much is this Bluthenthal & Heilbronner worth?

Scott , It depends on what the embossing looks like (anything special -in a round slug plate or just something plain like arched lettering or straight across etc..) with the economy the way it is right now , its hard to tell , but with plain lettering and before the economy my guess would have been around $80. - $100. If you want to sell it , just put it on Ebay and see what happens. Mike

We have found in a number 3 jug wich has Tucker & McCormak, 156 Front St., Memphis Tenn. on the front. Seems in very good condition but would like to know any history of this company if possible
Thanks

Hey David. They were in business after 1901 although I have no information available to tell you exactly when. My guess would be probably between 1905 & 1910. I have seen only 1 other of these jugs which was also a larger size. This is a very hard to find jug from Memphis. I hope this helps you a little. Thanks, Mike

Hello diggers,
I recently discovered a "bluthenthal & heilbronner memphis tenn" whiskey bottle. It is a clear bottle. Can you give me any information on this bottle? I have looked on ebay and googled it but can not find anything on this bottle. Thanks!

Hey Scott. Bluthenthal & Heilbronner were listed in the Memphis City directories in 1899 , 1900 , & 1901. For lack of information I don't know when their business ended. Their first names were Herman B. & Max H. - Liquor Dealers. The address was 381 Front St. Also this bottle is harder to finder than your normal Whiskey bottles from Memphis. I hope this answers your question. Thanks a lot. Mike

Can you tell me where I can find a bottle probe?

Sorry , but I have none to spare but I'll tell you a place where you can get one. If you've looked for spring steel before then you know its hard to find. Here's the place: Its called T & T Tools . www.mightyprobes.com They only have solid handles so you'll to get you a semi-thin walled handle (16" is a good length) and have a machine shop or a friend cut some threads or weld it on. Anyway , there you are ! Mike

I found your site while researching my gggrandfather, D.A. Campbell. He was listed in the 1877 Sholes Memphis directory as the sole proprietor of Memphi Bitters. I know that bottle's on your wish list. He lived at 263 Rayburn near McLemore 1890-til he died in 1912. I love reading your historical markers. Great site!

Great , great story Diane ! I wish that you could come up with one of these bitters bottles. Its good to know where his residence was too. We've dug a few bottles in these area but haven't concentrated a lot there , so it would interest us more now to go back to try for one of these gems. Thanks for the information! Mike

Are there any whisky barrels from memphis? Any repros? I have a chance to buy a barrel from Memphis, but am not sure. The name starts with a S. Streetman or Speelman & cant remember the other name. Then a small circle in the middle. Then Memphis TN. The bottle is amber with a crude applied ring top. Not pontilled, but concave and pitted. Shaped just like a Sachem & Wigwam Bitters. Strike a bell?? Robert

Hey Robert.
Sorry , but I'm running a bit behind. What you have is definately not a repro ! If it is shaped like a normal barrel bitters , then you have an unknown bitters. Email me a picture. thememphisdiggers@yahoo.com I'll post it to the sight. Also I'll get the year the company was in business and post it back to this sight. Go get that bottle fast ! Mike

That barrel is embossed Stillman & Breen, Memphis, Tenn. Is it authentic or a repro?
